María José
The Voice That Never Stops
In an exclusive interview with Miamix.us , María José, known as " La Josa ," opened her heart to us in an intimate conversation. With her trademark authenticity, the Mexican singer, dancer, and actress shared her story, from her beginnings as part of the iconic group Kabah to her present as an established solo artist and proud mother.
Recalling her first steps in music at 16, María José confessed that she always dreamed of packed venues. “The more people there are, the more I feel encouraged to give my all,” she told us. Inspired by her mother's determination, she spoke to us about the importance of standing firm in the face of fame without compromising her family's privacy. “They don't talk about me much because I have nothing to hide. The press likes to follow those who don't want to be talked about,” she noted with humor and candor.
One of the most exciting moments of her career was opening for Rihanna, a milestone she recalled with a mixture of adrenaline and uncertainty. “I was excited, of course, but I also understood that the audience hadn't come to see me. You have to give it your all and get out fast,” she said with a smile.
In 2005, after the separation of Kabah, she knew her destiny remained in music. “2006 was a year of transition, like a snake shedding its skin. I had to find my essence, learn to be María José as a solo artist and as an adult woman.”
That transformation made her a more conscious, stronger artist with an unshakeable identity.
During the conversation, we also talked about Argentina, a country she holds dear. She excitedly told us how she recently returned to Bariloche, where she had spent her honeymoon, this time accompanied by her daughter. “It makes me very happy to see how Argentinians are so proud of their country and so respectful of people from outside.”
Regarding the pandemic, she was clear: “I learned a lot of things. If someone didn't learn anything from that time, they should go back. Human beings are like water; they have to flow.” A profound reflection that reveals an artist connected not only to her career, but to her evolution as a person.
“I learned a lot of things. If someone didn't learn anything from that time, they should go back. Human beings are like water; they have to flow.”
With a bright future ahead, María José is already preparing her next tour, which will take her to the West Coast of the United States and several Latin American countries in September. With the same passion that drove her since she was a child, she continues to demonstrate that, with or without a band, the stage always was and always will be her natural place.
